PROJECT: BACKYARD SANITARY SEWER MANHOLES

THE PROBLEM
The city of Hutchinson Wastewater Department discovered large volumes of groundwater were entering a series of 13 manholes located in the backyards of the Shady Ridge NW Neighborhood. Upon Inspection the I&I was occurring around pipe penetrations and barrel joints. The structures are 1971 vintage, 4’ Diameter X 5’ To 9’ Deep, and in otherwise good condition.
THE APPLICATION
Floorcoat Midwest Technicians strategically placed probes on the outside perimeter of the manholes. Avanti Soilgrout was injected to form a watertight seal around the structures and stop the I&I.
A FINAL LOOK
This method of non destructive repair allowed a quick return to service. It is keeping the groundwater out of the collection system saving, on treatment costs. John Olson, Public Works Manager, is taking a proactive approach to extend the life of the city’s infrastructure.
